Six Months of Miranda Joy

It is hard to believe, but Miranda turned six months old yesterday. She has brought so much joy to our lives, we can't image our family without her! We love her so much. She is growing and doing new things everyday. She has started to army crawl or roll to find toys she wants to play with. She is also enjoying new foods like oatmeal cereal and peas. She can stand while holding onto the edge of the sofa and sit upright by herself. It is amazing to watch her develop right before our eyes.

Here are the most recent pictures we have of her. They were taken during our trip to see my family for Thanksgiving. The dress she is wearing is one that my mom made for me, and I wore when I was a baby.

First Bites!

Solids!

Miranda started eating solid food today. Well, actually, Zane pointed out that it is not really solid. It is more like mushy food. She had some oatmeal for breakfast and for dinner. We taped her eating, but we forgot to take pictures of her with her food. Rookie mistake! Oh well...here are a few of her in her high chair after her meal. She played while Zane and I enjoyed our breakfast. I'll post the video soon!

If I Only Had Our Camera...

While we were traveling, there were two moments that would have been perfect to video and post on the blog. However, I did not have the video camera with me. Nonetheless, those times are still worth retelling. Enjoy!

Story #1:
On our first flight from Saint Louis to Charlotte, Miranda and I were seated in the middle seat on a row of three. Those seats are a tight fit for any normal sized adult, much less a normal sized adult with a very long baby. We barely squeezed into the seat and were able to jam Miranda's diaper bag under the seat in front of us. But we were making the best of it until about 10 minutes into take off. Then, Miranda completely filled her diaper and ruined her outfit. We were not free to move around the cabin, so I had to clean her up, jammed in between two strangers. I was working hard to change her diaper without getting poop all over myself or the people next to me. I finally got her a clean diaper and a clean outfit. Then, she did it all again!

Story #2:
Our trip home was a little bit of a fiasco. It started in Richmond when we boarded the plane and then had to wait on the runway for over an hour before take off. Then, by the time we landed in LaGuardia, Miranda and I had already missed our connecting flight. The only way to get to Saint Louis that day was to take a plane that stopped in Chicago. There were no direct flight to Saint Louis. Instead of getting home at 1PM, we did not get home until around 9PM. On our last leg, from Chicago to Saint Louis, Miranda and I were exhausted. We had been traveling for about 12 hours straight at that point. But we were the first to board and we were seated in the first row of the economy seats. Thus, every passenger on the plane had to walk passed us. As exhausted as she was, Miranda wanted to stand on my lap, facing all the passengers. She greeted everyone who boarded the plane with her sweet little baby babble. She talked to everyone with her cute a-goos, eeks, aaahs, mehs, and ooms. She would smile at passengers who walked by and giggle for those who smiled back. Then, once everyone was boarded, she fell sleep in my arms for the whole flight.

Sweet Pea

Miranda and I spent Halloween night with Zane's family in Northern Virginia. Zsa Zsa (Zane's Mom) bought Miranda the cutest little pea pod costume. We then had dinner with Grandpa Joe, Aunt Keira, Uncle Rodrigo and Cousin Erica.

Virginia Pictures

This is my extended family at the graveside service. Grandpa was buried at a family burial plot in Louisa, Virginia. The plot is on the property where my great-great-great grandfather grew up. The last time I had been to the property, I was too young to remember. It was so interesting to hear all the family stories and see this piece of my past.

Before my Grandpa died, my Grandma took care of him faithfully. She sacrificed a lot to keep him out of a nursing home and provide excellent care. Thanks Grandma!

Miranda with her Great-Aunt Patsy

Miranda's cousin, Anna, kept her entertained during the car rides.

The fall leaves were at their peak in Virginia!

Miranda and Matilda were born just 6 weeks apart. These little cousins are definitely going to have fun together.

Sad Reason...Good Trip

I have not posted to the blog in a while because Miranda and I have been in Virginia for the past week and a half. Sadly, my Grandpa Nesbit passed away on October 23rd. He would have been 90 in January. Grandpa moved into my parents' house when I was about 10 (I actually don't remember exactly, I might have been 11), and I am thankful for all the memories that I have of him. At his funeral, someone asked me what my first memory of him was. It was fun for me to remember so I thought that I would share.

My first memory of my Grandpa is when I was really young. I am not sure how young, but I was probably about 4 or 5. Every year, all of the cousins in my family would come to Grandma and Grandpa's house for a week without our parents. They lived in a rural part of Virginia so we would spend our days building forts in their woods, digging in their garden, swimming in their pond, climbing trees, and doing lots of fun things outside. I must have been completely worn out one night because I fell asleep in their living room. But I remember waking up in Grandpa's arms when he carried me upstairs to my bed. That's my earliest memory of my Grandpa, being carried up to my bed after a long, hard day of playing.

Overall, it was a good trip. We stayed with my parents, and we saw all of my siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. Miranda and I also spent a few days with Zane's parents in Northern Virginia. I will post some pictures and stories soon.
